Front raise (Theraband)
What you should feel?? When performed correctly, you will feel the muscles in front of your shoulder working. You should also feel that the muscles of the upper back, specifically around the scapula (shoulder blade) stabilising. There should not be any pinching or pain in the shoulder joint.
Instructions:
- Place the theraband under your foot and hold the opposite end with your hand
- Keeping the elbow straight, raise the arm up in front of you stopping at eye height
- Lower back down to the starting position in a controlled manner
- Continue until you have finished the set
Main muscles targeted:
- Deltoids (predominantly anterior deltoid)
Main benefits:
A front raise is an important and functional exercise for the shoulder complex. We use this every day when we lift things. When you do not have adequate strength in these muscles you are likely to put more strain on the rotator cuff which can be permanently damaging. A front raise will predominantly work the anterior muscles of the shoulder.
